Create your first campaign

This walks through creating a quantity breaks campaign — discount levels that unlock as a shopper buys more of a product, like “Buy 2, save 10%, buy 4, save 20%”. The same tabs and Save/publish steps apply to Buy X get Y and Cart goals campaigns; only the Setup tab’s content differs. See Quantity breaks for how the levels themselves work.

From Campaigns, select Create campaign and pick Volume discount (Tiered pricing, Bundle packs, and Spend & save are the same engine with different starting defaults). A campaign’s kind is fixed once you create it — you can’t turn a quantity-breaks campaign into a Buy X get Y campaign later, or the other way round.

  • Campaign name — internal only, shown just inside the app.
  • Display name — what shoppers see as the discount’s name at checkout.
  • Discount rules — whether a level is unlocked by quantity or amount spent, and whether the discount applies to all units, to each unit at its own level, or to whole packs.
  • Discount levels — add at least one level: a minimum, an optional maximum, and a discount type and value. Up to 10 levels.
  • Targeting — which products the campaign applies to and who can use it. See Targeting.
  • Schedule — set start and end dates, or leave it off to run continuously as soon as the campaign is Active. See Scheduling and status.
  • Widget — pick a layout preset and colors for the product-page widget.
  • Cart & badge — cart line messages and the optional image badge over the product image.
  • Placement — where the widget sits on the product page, if automatic placement needs a nudge.

Click Save. This is what actually creates the campaign — nothing exists on Shopify’s side before this.

A Draft campaign is never applied at checkout, no matter what else is set up. Turning a campaign on also needs a free slot on your plan and remaining campaign sales for the period — if either is used up, turning it on is blocked until you free one up, add a pack, or upgrade.

Saving stores the campaign in the app. Making it Active is what publishes it: Nock Deals creates or updates an automatic discount in Shopify and writes the data the checkout Function and the storefront widget both read. This happens automatically every time you save an Active campaign, or turn a saved campaign on.

That sync has its own status, shown under Checkout on the campaign’s Status card:

Checkout status What it means
Not published The campaign has never been synced to Shopify — it’s Draft, or Active but the sync hasn’t run yet.
Publishing… The sync is in progress.
Published The discount is live — shoppers get it at checkout.
Failed Shopify rejected the sync. The campaign’s own error message explains why; use Try again to retry.

A campaign can show the Active label while its checkout status is still Publishing, or even Failed — Active describes what you asked for, not what checkout currently honours. Shoppers can still see the widget’s levels on the product page in that window; they just won’t get the discount until the sync reaches Published.
